The Packers have Love under contract through 2024, and that’s a big difference because Daniel Jones and Geno Smith were both slated to be free agents. That helps Green Bay in two ways. First, it gives them flexibility to structure a better contract, as Love will make $6 million in 2024. Second, it gives them leverage because they are not forced to extend him, so they will if it’s a reasonable negotiation.

Will The Packers Commit To Love Beyond 2024?
No matter what the Packers’ record is at the end of the season, I would be shocked if they gave up on Love after one (or two) seasons starting. He has grown significantly in the coaching staff’s eyes during his time on the team. At the end of his first season, the team wasn’t expecting a Super Bowl victory, only enough to commit beyond his current contract. Of course, winning the Super Bowl is every team’s goal heading into the season, however, being realistic is also part of the process.
Aaron Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl win three years after becoming the starting role. Love will probably have at least that much time to show that he is deserving of the title of “the guy” in Green Bay. The Packers’ armory has expanded to include several weapons that are similar in age to Love. The front office is hoping that all these weapons will develop with Love and become an elite offensive unit in the years to come. Giving up on such growth after a year or even two is pointless.
