The wait is officially over as Georgia football’s jounrey in the College Football Playoff is ready to begin after a long wait after the SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs are ready to take on Notre Dame in what will likely be one of the best games of the postseason to date.
There are mixed opinions throughout the country on who will win this CFP quarterfinal matchup at the Sugar Bowl. The consensus across the country among college football fans is that Notre Dame will come out on top strictly because Georgia is without QB Carson Beck. However, Vegas gives the slight edge to the Bulldogs even if Beck is not playing.
To likely no one’s surprise however, the ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) is once again picking against Georgia in this game.
ESPN’s FPI is picking against Georgia again
So many times throughout this year, ESPN’s FPI predictor has picked against Georgia. They did so in both games against Texas as well as Georgia’s game at Ole Miss, and they are once again predicting a Georgia loss as the FPI gives Notre Dame a 54.9 percent chance at winning this game, which is a slight increase from a few days ago.
Now it’s hard to be upset at anyone thinking Notre Dame will win this game, because from an outsider’s perspective it makes sense why someone would think Georgia can’t win without Beck. But Georgia fans know that just isn’t true. If the Bulldogs can come from behind and beat Texas in the SEC Championship game with Gunner Stockton under center, then surely they can beat any other team in the country as well.
But ESPN, like they have a lot of other times this season, does not believe in Georgia.
Thankfully their prediction, like every other prediction, does not matter. Georgia will once again have every chance to prove ESPN and the rest of the country wrong against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. And if we’ve learned anything about this team this season, they likely will prove all the doubters wrong once again.
