On Wednesday night the Georgia Bulldogs will square off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a second round College Football Playoff battle. The Bulldogs enter the game without star quarterback Carson Beck, who suffered an injury to his throwing elbow in the SEC title game against Texas. After undergoing surgery that ended his 2024 season, Beck announced his plans to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
“The past five years at the University of Georgia have been nothing short of a dream come true and I will forever cherish the memories that have been made,” he said. “Thank you Dawg Nation for the time I’ve been here and to those who’ve supported and believed in me, thank you. It’s been an incredible journey and all these moments have ultimately led me to take the next step in my football career. With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. Go Dawgs!”
Backup quarterback Gunner Stockton will get the start on Wednesday night in replacement of Beck, who head coach Kirby Smart revealed is with the team for the game. “He’s been there for Gunner throughout,” Smart said of Beck. “He’s supported Gunner, had multiple conversations with him. Looking forward to having him with us for this game.”
While Beck won’t be playing on the field, he still has the support of girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. In a year-end post on New Year’s Eve, Cavinder shared a series of photos from her 2024 – including one of her and Beck on the field.
Georgia enters Wednesday nights game as a slight one-point favorite over Notre Dame, despite fielding a backup quarterback.
