A medical technician working for the Gregg County Jail has been arrested following an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

According to a release put out by the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office, Sonja Sheree Jones, 54, of Longview, was arrested for falsifying medical documents.

The arrest comes after an investigation into an inmate death at the Gregg County Jail. While investigating the inmate’s death, discrepancies in medical documentation were discovered that prompted a criminal investigation.

After reviewing security camera footage and medical documents it was determined that Jones, a staff member at the jail, had falsified medical documents.

The investigation was handed over to the Texas Rangers and the Texas Comission on Jail Standards was notified of the discovery.

On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers issues an arrest warrant for Jones who turned herself in and was arrested on Thursday around 1 p.m. for tampering with a government record with a $10,000 bond.

When asked for comment Captain Craig Harrington with the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office has decline to say on if the two investigations were connected.

Michael Brantley is hanging up his cleats

The 36 year old Brantley was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers, and was sent to the Cleveland Guardians at the end of the 2008 season as the player to be named later in the trade that sent C.C. Sabathia to Milwaukee. Brantley played ten seasons for the Guardians, peaking in 2014 with a 7.0 bWAR season where he finished third in the American League MVP voting.

Brantley struggled to stay healthy after that, missing most of 2016 and a good chunk of 2017. He signed with the Houston Astros after the 2018 season, and spent his final five seasons with them, though he played just 15 regular season games in 2023 and just 64 in 2022. If this is it for Brantley, his final at bat was a ninth inning pop out against Jose Leclerc in Game 7 of the ALCS.

Brantley ends his career with a .298/.355/.439 slash line and 34.3 bWAR.
