The Cincinnati Bengals completed a rare deal at the NFL trade deadline by acquiring running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears, and star quarterback Joe Burrow is pleased with the move.
“It’s something that we needed, I think,” Burrow told reporters on Tuesday, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “I’m glad that we went out and tried to get better. I’ve watched Khalil in the past, and I think he will help us.”
Per Williams, before Tuesday’s acquisition of Herbert, the Bengals had only made two in-season trades in the last 52 years.
Cincinnati was in need of depth at the running back position after Zack Moss was placed on injured reserve due to a neck injury. Herbert is expected to be the primary backup to second-year running back Chase Brown, who leads the team with 479 yards and four touchdowns.
