Greensboro, North Carolina — T’yana Todd scored a career-high 24 points and nailed five three-pointers, Teya Sidberry had 20 points and 10 rebounds, the No. 13 seed Boston College defeated Clemson, the No. 12 seed, 85-72 on Wednesday in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament opener.
Boston College (14-18), which has won three straight following a 10-game losing streak in ACC play, will face 24th-ranked Louisville in the second round on Thursday. The Eagles dropped both regular-season games against the Cardinals, including a 69-67 loss at home on February 15.

Clemson (12-19) suffered its first opening-round loss in six seasons under coach Amanda Butler.

Sidberry scored on two consecutive possessions, including a three-pointer in transition, to increase Boston College’s advantage to 75-66 midway through the fourth quarter. She scored three more points during a game-ending 10-4 run.

Dontavia Waggoner scored 18 points and Andrea Daley added 13 for Boston College. Kaylah Ivey recorded 12 of Boston College’s 22 assists. The Eagles scored 26 points off of 20 Clemson turnovers.

Boston College led 23-13 at the end of the first quarter, having shot 53% from the field. Clemson committed seven turnovers and hit only five field goals in the first ten minutes. The Eagles led 42-34 at the half.

Ruby Whitehorn and Dayshanette Harris each scored 26 points for Clemson. Amari Robinson tallied 15 points.

Boston College avenged a 65-55 loss to Clemson on February 1 by going 0 for 11 from three-point range.
