Former GM Russell Wilson can have a revival like the Hall of Fame quarterback.

Former GM says Russell Wilson can have resurgence like Hall of Fame QB

“I would go to Pittsburgh because they’re going to be a good team defensively,” he said. “He won’t have to carry the team. In addition, he has some very skilled players. They have some pretty good skill players that we haven’t recognized due to a lack of quarterback play.”

If Wilson chooses the Steelers as his next team, he will have to battle with QB Kenny Pickett for the starting position. However, Lombardi does not believe Wilson is concerned about the No. 20 overall pick in 2022, who has thrown only 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 25 games.

Russell Wilson’s two seasons with the Broncos may be characterized as a failure, since he went 11-19 as a starter. It was surprising that it ended so soon after Wilson agreed to a five-year, $242.5 million contract with Denver in 2022, but many believe the 35-year-old is past his prime.

Michael Lombardi, the former general manager and three-time Super Bowl champion, isn’t among them. In fact, he feels Wilson can have a comeback like Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner at the end of his NFL career.

“When Kurt Warner left the Giants, he was not playing well,” Lombardi stated on the television program “The Pat McAfee Show.” “And then he went to Arizona, where he was the backup before being promoted to starter. I believe his two years at Arizona were what propelled him into the Hall of Fame.”

Warner spent one season with the Giants (2004), throwing six touchdowns and four interceptions in ten games. Many thought he’d seen his finest days in the league, but he received another chance with the Cardinals and made the most of it.

Warner led Arizona to Super Bowl XLIII in his final few seasons, passing for 11,753 yards and 83 touchdowns.

Wilson, like Warner, will get another opportunity because he is reportedly willing to play for the veteran minimum of $1.21 million. The Broncos owe him $39 million for the 2024 season, minus whatever money he receives from a new team.

The 12-year veteran is still considering where he will play next. He has already met with the Giants.
