According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff are set to discuss a contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

Goff and the Lions are prepared to face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship on Sunday night.

The 29-year-old quarterback has one year remaining after this season and is set to earn $31.6 million in 2024 before entering free agency.

‘The Detroit Lions never saw him as a bridge quarterback; they always thought he’d be the franchise quarterback,’ Rapoport added.

‘My understanding is that after the Super Bowl, the Lions and Goff’s representatives are anticipated to start talks on a contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.’

Detroit acquired Goff in a deal with the Los Angeles Rams three years ago, and many expected him to be the Lions’ starter for only a short time.

Instead, Goff has been at the center of the Lions’ rebuilding efforts over the last few seasons.

During his first season in Detroit, the Lions went 3-10-1, a long cry from their 12-5 record this year.

Goff’s numbers have also improved over his three years in Detroit, as he concluded the regular season with 407-605, 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Fans in Detroit have rallied behind the 2016 No. 1 overall choice, chanting his name at sporting events across Michigan.
