The Bills have reached an agreement to bring quarterback Mitch Trubisky back to Buffalo, according to several reports Wednesday. The former No. 2 overall pick and the Pittsburgh Steelers amicably agreed to split ways on February 12, with two years remaining on a three-year, $19.4 million deal. He is now rumored to be returning to Buffalo to play Josh Allen’s backup. Trubisky, 29, spent the 2021 season in Buffalo as Allen’s backup, going 6 of 8 for 43 yards and running for 24 yards for a touchdown in six games.
Trubisky signed with the Steelers as a free agency in 2022, the same year Pittsburgh chose quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round of the draft. Trubisky started the season as the starter quarterback, but Pickett quickly took his spot. While Pickett struggled with injury and regression in 2023, Trubisky got two starts before the Steelers went to Mason Rudolph, who led the team to a wild-card spot. Trubisky completed 64.1% of his throws for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns, and ten interceptions in 12 games (seven starts) with Pittsburgh. He scored four running
touchdowns.
Trubisky has 12,536 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 48 interceptions in 69 games (57 starts) with the Bears (2017-20), Bills (2021), and Steelers. He has a 31-26 career record as a starter.
